Jenny Shaw, an artist originally from Taipei, Taiwan, has made Los Angeles her home for over forty years. Influenced by California's diverse culture and pleasant climate, her artwork embodies a sense of optimism, happiness, and playfulness. From an early age, Jenny was drawn to the arts, experimenting with watercolors and traditional Chinese inks. After relocating to California in 1983, she pursued formal art studies at Chaffy College and debuted her first solo exhibition in Taipei in 2002.
Jenny's artistic journey is deeply intertwined with her love for literature, philosophy, music, dance, travel, and nature. These interests have inspired her to explore her psychology and emotions deeply, which she expresses through non-objective, abstract, mixed-media paintings. Her primary mediums include acrylics, watercolor, and gouache, and she employs various tools to add layers and textures to her canvas. This process of layering and then removing to reveal the "essence" of her work is a metaphor for memory and personal growth.
In her quest to develop a distinctive voice, Jenny has meticulously studied the color palettes of renowned artists such as Bonnard, Matisse, Diebenkorn, George Inness, Tom Thomson, and Wolf Kahn. Their influences resonate with her vivacious spirit and have helped her cultivate a palette characterized by warm, radiant, and euphoric colors. Jenny Shaw's art is a celebration of life, aiming to spread happiness and comfort to her audience through her vivid and emotionally resonant paintings.
